Guess who serves Crabstick and Mango Goody Wrap around the metro? If your answer is Sugarleaf, you got that right. Believe me, it tastes as good as it looks. A perfectly wrapped organic lettuce + cucumber + mango + crabstick served with authentic Goody Kefir dressing. Very organic yet delicious and healthy, what more can you ask for?
I asked Mr. Angelo Songco, the person in charge of Marketing and Business Development, why Sugarleaf, what’s with the name?
Sugarleaf, a healthy-eats resto-store basically came from a plant called stevia. Its leaves “possess an intense sweetening capability. Though somewhat controversial in its earlier years, stevia is totally safe and is highly regarded because it has anti-oxidant properties, has zero calories, and doesn’t affect blood sugar levels. Sugarleaf imbibes sweetness, happy thoughts and feelings linked with healthy living and organic lifestyle.”
Their resto caters people who are into healthy eating lifestyle or those who want to get the most out of organic foods. Plus, they get their ingredients from certified organic farms.
Sugarleaf doesn’t want you to stop eating your favorite foods. They are also NOT a vegan/vegetarian restaurant. They just want to promote a more organic and healthy option to people. A matter of incorporating healthy things into your lifestyle.
I have visited another resto like this before. Allow me to mention Impressca. They also serve fresh greens for salads and has the same goal – t0 serve healthy menu. While Impressca aims to preserve the environment, Sugarleaf, on a parallel note, wanted “to be a one-stop shop offering a wide array of organic products to residents in Metro Manila.” It’s kinda like complementing each other right?
Together with other OpenRicers, we were served with a table of fresh greens, pasta with fruits, etc. Aside from the Crabstick and Mango Goody Wrap (P188) mentioned earlier, here are some of the servings we tasted. To give you an appetizing view, let me describe how it tasted based on my buds.
FYI: Suchero is an all-natural sweetener. As fresh and as clean as you can get it, you will find this from a coconut sap. (unbleached, unrefined, unfiltered). I’ll feature this on my next posts.
Another great sandwich is the Turkey Waldorf. A classic salad in a raisin-cinnamon bagel. Consists of turkey, red apple, celery, toasted cashew nuts dressed with sour cream-nutmeg-mayo. Take a bite and you’ll discover the sweetness of the apple balancing all the ingredients. Yum! Price: 208
I was caught with the very interesting flavor of this freshly-made fettuccine, infused with organic vegetable or super food and served with organic pesto or white kefir sauce topped with mango. The tang of the fruit set off the kefir sauce.
Another dessert I got the chance to munch is the Kefir Cheesecake (P95/740). Tastes a bit ‘herb-ally’ and cheesy.
For the finale, we got ice creams! Jello’s coco-sugar coco kefir ice cream. The kefir (green) has that kick after each swallow because of the malunggay , green tea, and spirolina mixture. Vegans, you’ll definitely go for this. For those asking for something familiar, coco-sugar flavor (brown) is for you. Price: P180
